BURSARIES IN JEWISH STUDIES (CSIC-UCM)

The project “Jewish Cultures Across Mediterranean Europe” (J-Med), CSIC-UCM, invites applications for up to three-month study and/or research bursaries in the field of Jewish studies at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), during the academic year 2017-2018, with a monthly stipend of 937 € and the option of an additional travel allowance of 263 €.

AIM

The grants are addressed to pre-doctoral students who have completed their degree after October 1, 2014, or those who have started their doctoral studies, and wish to continue research and specialization studies with scholars from both academic institutions.

The centers eligible for application are the Institute of Languages and Cultures of the Mediterranean and the Near East (ILC) and other institutes of the Center for Human and Social Sciences (CCHS) of the CSIC, as well as the Hebrew and Aramaic Studies Department of the Complutense University in Madrid.

PROFILE AND REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES

The grants are addressed to university students from Spain (except for those previously enrolled in any of the academic institutions of the Community of Madrid), Portugal and other European countries, especially those of the Mediterranean area.

Eligible candidates must be pre-doctoral students with a degree or master’s degree in Jewish studies, Hebrew (or Semitic philology with major in Hebrew), or equivalent studies by country of origin, and other research disciplines with interest in Jewish studies.

The grant period, up to three months, must take place between November 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018, being required residence in Madrid during the period awarded, exceptionally permitting absence during short periods duly justified.

The recipients of the grants will participate in the activities organized by the project “Jewish Cultures across Mediterranean Europe” (www.jmed.eu). Those awarded will be responsible for their own travel arrangements and health insurance.

  BURSARIES AWARD

  The selection process will depend on the excellence of CV and the interest of the proposal. The CSIC-UCM selection committee will decide about the submitted applications and inform all candidates about the final decision.
