Conference: ‘Le monde arabe, entre rupture et renaissance ?’, 03/02/2016 (Paris)

The conference ‘Le monde arabe, entre rupture et renaissance ?’ (the Arab world, between split and rebirth?), organized by the research department Société, Liberté, Paix of the Collège des Bernardins and by the iReMMO, will take place on Wednesday, 3rd of February 2016, from 9.30am to 7pm.

Summary: Five years after the outbreak of the Arab revolutions, while deep changes affect the Middle East, the Collège des Bernardins and the iReMMO wish to review the current situation in the Arab world. This conference will try to assess the prospects of the Arab world.
How far will the prolonged decline of some Arab states go?
Are we moving towards a medium-term restructuration of the Middle East based on cultural ethnic entities instead of the existing states?
To what extent can the concepts of citizenship and democracy improve?

Program:

  • 9h30 – 10h : Introduction historique : création des États au Moyen-Orient dans les années 1920.
  • 10h – 12h30 : Vers une recomposition des États ?
  • 14h15-16h30 : Les sociétés arabes. Communautarisation et citoyenneté.
  • 17h – 18h30 : Les minorités religieuses dans le monde arabe.
