The relationship between religion and science is a controversial topic. This course deals with what happened before the 17th century in Europe, focusing on three main aspects: how the ‘natural sciences and the humanities’ have acquired their independance from the ‘religious knowledge’; the diversity of the religious authorities’ reactions towards the scientific and technological progress; the epistemological debates taking place at the time.
