Call for candidates for PhD Grant
Université de Nantes/Institut du Pluralisme Religieux et de l’Athéisme (IPRA)
Ecole doctorale 496 : Sociétés, cultures, échanges (SCE)
The Université de Nantes, IPRA and the Ecole Doctorale SCE are offering a three-year grant for a PhD student to work on a dissertation in humanities or social sciences, related to the research themes of IPRA.
Context :
The Institut du Pluralisme Religieux et de l’Athéisme (IPRA, www.ipra.eu) is financed by the Pays de la Loire Region as part of its Connect Talent initiative. It focuses on religious pluralism, i.e., the legal, social and cultural contexts that permit the presence of multiple religions (and atheism) in societies past and present. The Institute brings together researchers in different disciplines of social sciences and the humanities. The Institutes missions include fundamental research (including helping researchers seek funding for their projects and organizing conferences and workshops), teaching (in particular a continuing education degree in “Religions and atheism in a secular context” as well as training aimed at specific social and professional communities), and the organization of outreach events open to the public (debates, public lectures, etc.).
Project :
The University of Nantes is financing a doctoral grant in coordination with IPRA. The Ecole Doctorale Sociétés, Cultures, Échanges (SCE) will recruit the candidate, but he or she will be a member of the new Ecole Doctorale Sociétés, Temps, Territoires (STT), which will open its doors in September 2017 as part of the Université Bretagne-Loire (UBL).
We invite candidates from diverse disciplines in the humanities and social sciences to propose a PhD project in coordination with an advisor at the University of Nantes. The dissertation may be written in English or in French.
The PhD student will be associated with IPRA and will have an office in the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme Ange Guépin. 5/6 of her/his time will be devoted to the dissertation. The other 1/6 will be devoted to IPRA, for missions of valorization and diffusion of the Institute’s activities and for participation in the activities of the Institute.
Eligibility :
This call is open to persons of all nationalities. Candidates should have a recent master degree (or the equivalent) in the humanities or social sciences, with a specialization related to IPRA’s themes. The dissertation will be undertaken at the University of Nantes, under the supervision of an advisor associated with one of the research laboratories of the Ecole Doctorale STT. The candidate may have a cotutelle or simultaneous inscription in another university.
How to apply :
The following documents, in English or in French, should be sent to Nicolas Stefanni, Ingénieur Projet IPRA (nicolas.stefanni@univ-nantes.fr ) by 10 June 2017 :
1. A completed application form
2. A 3-5 page description of the dissertation project, in English or in French
