RELMIN exhibition, lecture and guided tour, from January 11 to February 5, 2016 – Nantes (France)
From 2010 to 2015, the European research program RELMIN (the legal status of religious minorities in Europe and the mediterranean world, 5th – 15th century), based in the MSH Ange Guépin studied the legal texts defining the relations between religious minorities and majorities in the Middle Ages. In medieval societies, belonging to one of the three great monotheistic religions was crucial, and political power was linked to that. The social, political and daily relationship were defined by a legal and sacred framework that RELMIN researchers have studied and exposed in a database. These legal texts shed light on the relationships existing between individuals belonging to different communities in the Christian and Muslim states, cities and kingdoms. The exhibition is a mean of rediscovering some of these sources in a thematic way, as well as the reasearch-books published during the work on the RELMIN project.
