Conference: ‘Islamic Studies in Scotland: Retrospect and Prospect’ – 23-24/10, Edinburgh
As a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Inaugural Lecture of Willizm Montgomery Watt (the first Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Scotland) in October 1965, a serie of lectures will be given at the University of Edinburgh on the 23rd and 24th of October 2015. The theme of these lectures will be: ‘Islamic Studies in Scotland: Retrospect and Prospect’.
John Tolan, co-director of the IPRA, will give a lecture on the 24th of October, on the following topic: ‘The Ecumenical Turn: Massignon, Watt, and 20th-century European scolarship on Muhammad’.
